Melanie Zwiener

DVM, DrMedVet

Mel graduated from TiHo Hanover, Germany in 2002. During her degree, she wrote her thesis on echocardiography (ultrasound of the heart). She has continued her love for ultrasound all throughout her career.

Mel also enjoys all kinds of surgery, and is a pro when it comes to handling anxious and aggressive cats.

“I grew up surrounded by animals of all shapes and sizes in Germany. We had an owl, squirrels, mice, geese, rabbits, budgies, a dog, chickens and goats. I love the trust that animals put in people as well as the different characters they have! I always wanted to know ‘how’ things worked and how to treat diseases, and the main reason I became a vet was my wish to help those who cannot help themselves.”

When she’s not at work, Mel enjoys exploring the outdoors with her husband, their teenage kids and their Entlebucher Sennendog they brought with them all the way from Germany.

Mel worked with us in 2008-2012, before doing a stint in Perth and back home in Germany. We were delighted to welcome her back in 2023.
